Another Reason to Always Work Safely

Yesterday I was at one of our job sites and I had a discussion with the superintendent from the general contractor that we are working for.  He advised that OSHA was at this job site last week and took pictures of another subcontractor not using fall protection in a material hoist area.  The general contractor had set up a double corral type guardrail system.  The subcontractor was not using the corral system appropriately.  The subcontractor had an employee appropriately tied off with fall arrest equipment while accepting a material load that was being hoisted into the project at an elevated level.  Another employee jumped in to help, however, the 2nd employee helping did not use fall arrest equipment.  OSHA was sitting in the parking lot, took photos and then issued the subcontractor an OSHA citation.  The general contractor was not issued an OSHA citation.  The superintendent advised that this safety issue led to several meetings with his bosses and his company's safety director and he said he could have lost his job.  He said that he was able to keep his job because he had built the double corral guardrail system, trained the subcontractors on the appropriate way to use it, trained them on the fall protection plan, etc.

This is another reason that we (I.D.I. employees) need to always do things the right way and always work in a safe manner.  We don't want for an employee of our general contractor to lose his job because we aren't working safely.
Please keep this in mind the next time you go to perform a task in an unsafe manner as you are not only jeopardizing yourself and the company, you are also putting others in a bad position.

Have a Safe Day!
